Visually Impaired Chess

This evening we held a visually impaired chess night. Steve, who is himself VI, brought a selection of VI boards and we donned blindfolds and took hold of the 64 squares.

It was an interesting experience using our fingers instead of our eyes to see, and some had more success than others. Every game did need an arbiter as there were often discrepancies between the two boards, but successful games were had by all.

After games were concluded, I think there was some newfound appreciation for what Steve does and that it isn’t as easy as it looks (no pun intended).

If you are interested in the next similar event, let us know and we’ll be sure to let you know when one is scheduled. Any questions about VI chess are best directed at Steve. Thank you Steve for organizing this interesting event.

Next on the schedule:

Thursday 5th September – Rapid play tournament

Monday 9th September – Handicap knockout

Thursday 12th September – Dorchester Jamboree

Monday 16th September – Two Towns

Get in touch if you want more information on any of the above.
