And so the matches are coming thick and fast, here are theĀ latest overall updates.
Carrying on from the A team’s first match draw at Highcliffe our C team went to Wimborne on the 10/10 and won their second match of the season 2.5/1.5. Wins for Dragi and Tarik with a draw from Simon Patterson was enough to secure the points. Very encouraging for the C team.
On Thursday evening our E team hosted Wimborne E and despite gaining a win from a default prior to the match starting (see Graham Morris’s report) where he became a one match wonder without playing a move I am afraid we succumbed on all 3 boards to lose 1-3. No matter, its only the first match of a long season and at this stage last year our C team struggled in the 3rd Division up to Xmas to go on to comfortably win the league and gain promotion. Good efforts from Seth, Tony Pritchard, Ted Paul and Captain Christine. This team is too good not to win matches.
In the second match of the season our Dorset league B team also had a reversal when they went down 1.5/2.5 to a strong Dorchester D team. Again, a good effort from our team of Dragi with another win, and a solid Mike Rutter gaining a draw and Adam and Chris Ambrose making his first appearance of the season.
No matches at the weekend but four of our players took part in the Dorset Open Championship played at the Elstead Hotel over the weekend. All ourĀ players, Mike Duggan/ John Weatherlake playing in the Open, Richie playing in the Major and Christine playing in the Minor made good and satisfying scores. Please refer to the www.Dorset chess web site for details.
So into this week where our Poole Knights of Juniors from Lytchett Minster senior school played their first match of the season in the newly formed Bacchus League. Amazingly they scored 2-2 away against Highcliffe . This is the first senior competitive match played under ECF and local conditions so an excellent score considering all. For details see Tarik’s report.
I have to mention an exceptional week for Tarik who has managed to pull together a total of 4 teams in various competitions over 3 leagues including the above mentioned Poole Knights team. He also managed to fit in getting married on Saturday which was a miracle to behold and I am sure you will all join me in wishing him much happiness and all the best for his future.
So we move on to tonight where our A team have just settled down to play Southbourne A in their 2nd match of the season. It is a Wednesday night so its a behind closed doors match in our chess room without any movement, rustling, whispered speeches and groans from other humans! Good luck to them tonight. The team is Martin, Mike, John and David.
So tomorrow night we are hosting 2 teams. Our B team are playing Highcliffe A in the 1st Division. So far they have won both their matches so will be going for a hat-rick tomorrow night. Also playing are our C team with an expected line up of Dragi, Simon Patterson, Simon and Captain Tarik, again good luck to them.
Waiting in the wings for their first game of the season are our F team captained by Steve this season, with support from Matt Austin/Paul Trowbridge and Chris Ambrose. This is on the 1st November against Southbourne E. I am sure they have all been dusting the pieces and will be hungry for action.
So all alive and very much kicking at Poole this season with all 10 teams nearly under way and all doing their best. Watch this space for all things Poole chess club and good luck to all.
Your writer returning to the terraces to see so more action.
