Poole F-off to a winning start

Last minute personnel issues for both sides meant this was a match of 3 boards.

Bailey was on top board, but quickly took control of the game, buoyed by his opponent voluntarily putting his knights on the rim. A lovely rook sac in the centre of the board won the queen and left him in a control claiming the game. Can you see it?

Dave B managed a solid draw, a slight advantage in the opening but nothing to win any material and ended up with with 6 pawns and a bishop apiece, an understandable draw.

Steve started with the queen’s gambit and took control of the centre. A miscalculated capture led to Steve benefiting from a fork giving Steve both a material and positional advantage.

An excellent result with all boards coming away with something and performances that bode well for the rest of the season.
