Poole E Wins B&DCL Season Kick off Match

Poole E wins their first Division 4 match against Wimborne D by score of 2.5-1.5

I was in panic since morning being my first match as captain and was still missing a player but Dave Burt confirmed his attendance and the team was sorted.

The new venue of Wimborne CC was great but unfortunately last Monday of the month is pub quiz night so it was bit loud despite the doors were closed.

The Match started on time at 7:30 and both teams had all the players.

Tony S was dominant on Board 1 and finished with a win to give Poole decisive lead in the match. I was on Board 2 battling an aggressive opening from Ralph. Mike M on Board 3 had a locked position which ended in a draw though he had good chance to push for a win in the middle game. Dave B was on Board 4 playing a debutante and had a decent position till move 30 before he blundered into losing the match.

I was left to push for a win which I think I made it hard for myself. I was exchange up going into Rook vs Knight end game with equal pawns. My pawns were isolated while Ralph had connected pawns which made the end game interesting. Finally I did made it to the finishing line with a win with a dominant Rook.

It was good night of chess and new Wimborne venue is great, Thanks to the Wimborne CC for the arrangements.
