Poole C 2 – 2 Wimborne D

Wimborne came along for our first round of fixtures to face a team with two players new to the C team, and two familiar faces.

Andy was on top board and won with a game slightly shorter than the Magnus Carlson vs Rauf Mamedov game. Below is the final position:

Having commuted over 1,000 miles and a raring to go we hope that we’ll face a full team next round! Joking aside, no disrespect intended as his opponent was unfortunately not well enough to make it, we send our best wishes and hope he feels back to 100% soon.

Zander, freshly promoted to the C team continues to show his maturity on the board and demonstrates lessons that onlookers would do well to learn. In a position where he had a minor advantage, I personally would have taken that advantage, withdrawn and tried to be hard to beat. Zander however continued to pile on the pressure and soon walked away with the victory to make it 2-0.

Ellis is another new face, both to the team but also to the club. In his first competitive match he showed he’s in the right team and with very aggressive play had a slight advantage. Unfortunately, whilst trying to simplify into a won endgame a miscalculation lost material and it simplified into a lost end game. A good showing and signs of good things to come. 2-1

An interesting tactic in game was missed in the following position, white to move, what move wins a +9 advantage?

Tim returns this season and also managed to get an advantage and seemed intent on testing how long the club stays open for with increments potentially allowing an infinite game. Unfortunately the game ended without Tim still holding that advantage and Wimborne managed to get the second point to get a draw overall.

2-2. Well played all, thanks to Wimborne for coming down and look forward to meeting in the return leg where a couple of players will no doubt be out for revenge!
