Club News

NEW MEMBER

We are very pleased to welcome Andy Matko as a new member to the club . Andy played competitive chess many years ago and has joined the club with the intention to rekindle his chess interests and play in the leagues.

We  have assigned him to our C team with an estimate grade of 1700, I am sure you will all make him feel welcome and make sure he enjoys his time with us.

LEAGUE RESULTS

Match reports for the 1st round of games in all the BDCL league games. We have started very well with wins for our A, B & C teams in Division 1/2/3 and a well earned draw at Highcliffe by our D team in the 4th Division.

Our Juniors and  Steve  lost very narrowly 1.5/2.5 at Southbourne playing against 2 Juniors and 2 experienced league players in their 1st competitive match, the future is bright.

To keep updated on all matches, results, players statistics, other teams etc and all information relating to the BDCL please go to www.dorsetchess and click on the RED LMS button which will take you in for all menus.

Our A team match vs Southbourne this Thursday 4/11 has been postponed  due to two Southbourne players have contracted Covid (not player related). At the time of writing the D team match vs Southbourne will go ahead as planned on Thursday night.

Next Thursday 11/11 – there are two home matches. Our 1st Dorset league match vs Weymouth B and our  team is Adam, Tony Sanderson, Joe and David Burt. In addition on the same evening our Bacchus team of Juniors and one adult will play Bournemouth Pretenders!

4NCL

The 1st round of matches are on the 20/21 at Milton Keynes and this is the 1st time we have entered our own Poole team. It feels like a Bournemouth Echo moment!

John Weatherlake is in the chair for all things 4NCL and has all details. He is taking names of players that wish to compete so please let John know as soon as possible as there is only 2 weeks to go before this starts.

GENERAL NEWS

The club night will be always be open to all and we can use the middle room if available or the quite useful facility of the bar for social chess.

It is so refreshing  to see so many players coming to the club each Thursday to join and play social chess and I encourage all our league players to come and play as much as possible. I have been to two local clubs recently since the league has started and have noticed an absence of general members so keep it going and encourage all to come and visit.

Last Thursday I had a call from a visitor from Guernsey who wished to play some chess as a visitor to the club. I have copied his e mail sent yesterday.

Hi Eric,
I just wanted to say thank you for welcoming me to your club and giving me an opportunity to see how another club operates and play a few games.

I really enjoyed the visit and will definitely take you up on the offer to visit again should the opportunity arise in the future.

Please let me know if you or any of your members are visiting Guernsey in the future as I would like to be able to repay your kindness and invite them to visit our club.

Many Thanks,

Jon

Who knows, maybe we could set up an annual match vs Guernsey in the future.

XMAS FUNCTION ON THE 16 DECEMBER AT THE ELSTEAD HOTEL.

Steve is kindly taking the orders for the evening and just to remind you it is open to all members and their wives and partners this year, we have at least one year to make up for!

Mike Jay is our guest for the evening and we have a young talented local singer Sophie Breakell (look her up on u tube) who has kindly offered to sing for us. I am sure you will enjoy her singing.

Steve will be at the club this Thursday so if you are coming please give him you order and arrange the payment as soon as possible. All payments are due by the end of November. The Hotel have said they can accommodate 30 people so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Onwards and Upwards and good luck in your next games.
