25 Players across 7 teams
As we finish the first round of Bacchus matches, it seems we’ve had 25 different players playing in this first month, and we’ve still got members who haven’t played a game yet. Although a lot of people won’t be surprised to see Tim has played 4 games so far. And good to see John is back on form with 2.5 out of 3.
Amongst these games we have the Dorset A team managing to coax Chip out of retirement where he secured a valuable draw to go with Nick and John’s wins.
B&DCL Poole A have a win and a draw putting them in a good position at the start of the season.
One Bacchus team travelled to Southbourne with 6 players, including 2 juniors with most of them playing their first competitive matches and winning 4-2.
The other Bacchus team hosted Purbeck who brought along one player graded 1623 and one graded 1584 who were both lucky to escape with draws with a Poole team full of players playing their first games. All matches were really high quality chess and very well contested.
Poole B has already had two matches with a win and a loss, Poole C are trying to emulating past years with a last minute surge. It’s not last minute yet.
Poole D made a tricky trip across to a very strong New Milton where Bailey led a team that was heavily outgraded with a win on top board and bringing through some new players.
Dorset Poole B is the only team not to have started yet, nice and calm, no rush, we’ll start that in November. I just need to figure out where I can find 4 players from!
Each club night has been busy with lots of casual games taking place along side the evening’s match. Keep up the support and we’ll get people matches. One match I’m looking forward to is Poole F vs Poole E on 10th November. Be interesting to see how many people we can get to play, perhaps we can set a record on the board count! I’ll just get the two captains to confer….
