Summer Chess – What’s happening in June & July
Another successful season has finished, and we’ve just collected silverware for the B&DCL (Div 1 champions, Div 4 champions, Handicap knockout winners, and Tim was best performer in Div 4). Dorset trophies in due time. Well done to everyone.
As we enter summer, normal service is interrupted for the summer league. All players welcome.
Mon 17th June – Club closed, playing away in a Ringwood pub | |
Mon 24th June – Club open as normal | Wed 26th June – Playing against Highcliffe at Rockwater, Branksome Chine |
Mon 1st July – Club open as normal | Wed 3rd July – Playing against Southbourne at Rockwater, Branksome Chine |
Mon 8th July – Club open as normal | Wed 10th July – Playing against Bournemouth at Rockwater, Branksome Chine |
Monday 15th July – Club closed, playing in a Wimborne pub |
As you can see from the above table, we have a couple of dates where there is nobody expected to be at the Poole club. If you want to play chess you can either – let John or Tarik know and you can be included in the match at Ringwood or Wimborne, or make sure someone else is going to be at the club. We’re expecting everyone who wants chess on those days to be at the match.
What is the summer league? It’s a very casual chess gathering at a pub where we’ll try to match up the teams as closely as possible, but the focus is on relaxing in the British summer, preferably outdoors but British summer allowing. https://www.dorsetchess.co.uk/2024-bdcl-summer-chess-league-fixtures-now-out/
We’re playing our home matches at Rockwater, situated on the beach at Branksome Chine. They will take place on Wednesdays. Again, if you want to play, contact John or Tarik.
On the Monday’s 24th June, 1st July and 8th July the club will be open, however, given the matches on the Wednesday it may not be as busy.
Normal service resumes on Monday 22nd July back in Poole. Any new members, get in touch and we’ll make sure there’s someone to meet you on one of the Mondays.
