Southbourne D 2.5 – 1.5 Poole D
Back to Southbourne, this time against the stronger team, and the grades weren’t in our favour.
Dave L lost a pawn but managed to recapture one in return to make a level position and a good draw against Mike Davies 35 grading points above him. An excellent result and a good start for the team. 0.5 – 0.5
Don was under a large amount of pressure with attacks raining down, Don survived as long as he could but John Harris managed to make the pressure pay and although level on material, found a check mate. 1.5 – 0.5 to Southbourne.
Tarik managed to seize the centre early on and applied lots of pressure, isolating all of David Arorash’s pieces, and even offering a Rook for a pawn, a Rook that David could see had a hook attached and would have led to a sudden but inevitable demise. The pressure paid off with a Knight won for free and the opponents pawns scattered. It was well fought for hours until it was sealed as a win for Poole. 1.5 – 1.5
Finally Ciaran was playing Frank Hamilton-Taylor and managed to win the exchange and had quite a good position, unfortunately a reveal check allowed the pieces to balance out but Southbourne had a passed pawn that couldn’t be stopped. Once more a game decided by a single pawn.
Southbourne win 2.5 – 1.5
Good effort by all, and thank you to Southbourne for the hospitality.
Tarik
