John Weatherlake Representing Wales in Slovenia/4NCL Updates
Congratulations to John Weatherlake our Welsh Wizard who has been selected to play for Wales in Slovenia in the 23rd European Team Chess Championship 2021 from today 11 -21 November.
He is accompanied by Allan Pleasants, from Weymouth a regular in these events and to mention John has been a Junior Welsh Champion of not too many years ago and Allan also quite recently. Good luck to the team. If you have time and want to follow the games you can click on the above heading and there is a Livestream.
4NCL (National Chess League)
John who is captain of our 1st 4NCL team is flying back on the 20/11 to compete along with the team of Mike/Chip/David/Martin and Richie in the 3rd Division South. The matches are at Kents Hill Park, Milton Keynes.
This is the 1st of five rounds between November 21 and May 22, three of which are at MK and two at the Holiday Inn, Maindenhead, Windsor. You can look up 4NCL Division 3 South, to check on results etc as they progress. Watch this space….
Certainly this is the first time we have entered any team in the National Chess League, quite an accomplishment for our little club and maybe for any individual club team in Dorset.
We could even be playing our chess colleagues from Wessex as they are in the same division.
Again, best of luck to the team.
Local League News
Weymouth B have pulled out of the Dorset League Division 3.
Fortunately they have been replaced by a 2nd Wimborne team, so this league will still have 4 teams. Please check Dorset Chess/ LMS later or tomorrow for the updates on the revised fixtures. We will be using these games to give as many people at the club competitive games of chess and as the grading level is 1600 per player by 4 = 6400 we have a wide choice of players to choose from.
UP & COMING MATCHES
Tonight, 11/11 our Bacchus league team comprising of Zander/Leo/Steve and Harry are at home vs Bournemouth so we wish them well with good and attacking chess, and fingers crossed.
Tomorrow night 12/11 our B team are at Southbourne in the 2nd Division, it should be interesting and as always we are hopeful.
On Monday 15/11 our DL A team play their 1st game of the season at Highcliffe.
Finally, next Thursday 18/11 both our A and C teams are at home in a double bill vs Southbourne and Wimborne respectively.
A very busy week of chess for all and then followed by the 4NCL weekend!
OTHER NEWS
Free evening on the 25/11 at the club, no matches on club night.
As this is a rare occurrence I think it would be fun to have a 10 second lightening competition open to all members, graded or not, We had a very enjoyable one of these events some 3 years ago and I think if anyone can remind me of how it is done, as well as people who are interested, we can arrange this. 10 seconds a move, all play all, the 1st round is paired and then all move along one place. Please let me know if you can play.
Xmas Party
Steve is continuing to collect orders for the Xmas party & I believe we are approaching 20 in numbers already booked, please give Steve your order and then arrange to make the payment into the Poole CC a/c by the end of November.
Over and out from you know who, happy chessing!
