CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP AND LATEST NEWS

Congratulations to Tony Sanderson in winning the Minor section of the CC and also well done to Zander in reaching the Final in both your 1st seasons at the club. Zander matched Tony in the 1st game and both players agreed a draw. However in the 10 minute rapid play Tony had too much power and went on to win. I need to mention that Zander is still just 11 years old and this is his 1st season playing chess over the board. He is clearly destined for great things with his chess.

In the Intermediate section Andy Matko is playing Kyryzstoff in the Final at the end of May.

In the Major section Mike beat John to reach the Final and will play either Chip or Martin O. They played a very hard fought interesting draw last Thursday and will play their rapid play game this week.

CLUB NIGHTS THIS AND NEXT WEEK

There are 2 matches scheduled this week on Wednesday 11/5 in the Hall. The C team need at least a draw vs Bournemouth depending on Highcliffe winning tonight to win the Divison 3 and our D team are playing Bournemouth on same evening. Both games are on the Wednesday this week as the Hall is unavailable on Thursday. So, we will have at least between 16-20 players at the club and as always all are welcome and encouraged to visit, watch. play and enjoy the socials. Thursday will be our club night but in the bar so a choice of either nights.

Next week our Dorset league A team have their final match of the season and this is provisionally booked in the hall again on the Wednesday 18/5 (to be confirmed) with the Hall being unavailable on the 19/5.

The following week will be our inaugural evening in the Hall on the Monday 23/5 and this will be fixed every Monday for the future.

DONATION

Adam has kindly donated a lovely Aztec design chess set and board to the club which we will use a club prize sometime in the future. It is stored in our chess cabinet if anyone would like to sample a game with it or otherwise.

MEMBERSHIP

We have 27 members signed up with at least another 4 in process to make the current club register of members (live and active) to over 30 which is great. I am hopeful now that our club venue has improved with the space of the Hall, the improvement in surroundings and free use of the bar and other activities available we will attract new members.

Good luck to our C and D teams this week and I hope to see as many members as possible at the club this week.
