A Knight at the Opera

This game will be analysed with the Juniors on Saturday morning by Eric and Bryan Lose, but it’s a classic encounter so all members are encouraged to view it.

Paul Morphy was 21 years old when visiting Paris in 1858, he was invited by the Duke of Brunswick to see the Opera “Norma”

But whilst seated in the Royal Box he played this chess game against both the Duke Karl and Count Isouard, who spoke in 3 different languages to hide their thoughts.

Morphy, with his back to the stage, continually looking over his shoulder to follow the Opera, (almost a blindfold game) wrapped up this game in 17 moves!

As always, find the game under “Games” menu.
