Poole B go down at Wimborne in Division 1 match – 7/3/18

It was a hard night over the boards against Wimborne B last night as a narrow win on 3 boards completed their most successful night of the 17/18 campaign.

The final score was 3.5/0.5 in favour of Wimborne completely belied their league position, well done Wimborne.

Yours truly was drafted in for an unwell Toby (get better soon) on Bd 4 and played an old foe in Jorgen Neilsen with the black pieces. The game was very even with Black gaining the initiative on the K side but could not force any real advantage and had to retreat to squares then quickly became uncomfortable. Under increasing time trouble the position soon became more than suspect and White went on to win. Well played Jorgen.

Sergiu playing a very underrated Stuart Appleby also had a very tough evening and was losing position from early on but fought tooth and nail and through tenacity held on for an excellent draw. Well done Sergiu.

We also went down on Bds 1 and 2 as John and Chip both narrowly lost to Mark Littleton & Peter Wilcock, the final score being 3.5/0.5.

This match and result proved there is nothing to choose between the teams in the League 1 and much depends on the performance on the night, the margin on every board is very narrow.

And so we roll on Match day 8 with 3 more games to play.

Thanks to Captain Chip, Sergiu and John for all.
